The Snip

Sterilisation is a method of contraception that involves having surgery.

How long does it last?

Sterilisation is a permanent form of contraception.

How does it work?

For men, a vasectomy stops sperm from travelling through the tubes leading from the testicles so they no longer come out when the man ejaculates.

For women, a tubal ligation or tubal occlusion stops eggs from moving through the tubes that they normally travel through to meet the sperm.

What about my fertility?

As a permanent form of contraception, sterilisation is only recommended for people who no longer wish to have children.
